As a girl, Sam always looked up to her older sister Dynamo - perhaps one day she could be a popular and cool superhero like she was. Except Dynamo went missing without a trace when she was 11. Ten years later, she receives a mysterious letter and gift from her missing sister - a superhero suit of her own! Sam soon finds herself embroiled in the city's unchecked villainous underworld, mentored by Dynamo's former sidekick Puppet who doesn't seem to be in any hurry to help her find her sister...

Some may notice I hadnāt made a newsletter for the end of Chapter 6, the reason for this was that I was way too burned out on the project and I did not want to be talking about it - I know I couldnāt without sounding too negative about the whole thing. Luckily Iām feeling much better about the whole thing, and now I am back up to the task of yapping about my thoughts and progress! Not to mention the last time I published a newsletter we were just over 150 subsā¦ half a year later and weāre over 260! Itās going much quicker than I thought! Hello everyone!
I decided to take a month-long hiatus over July for various reasons - mainly to build up a much needed backlog; I didnāt have a backlog at all and so was scrambling to get pages done the day they uploaded, giving me no breathing room! It was probably what pushed me to totally hate the project. I now have at least a month of uploads ready to go, so thatāll help a whole lot!! Plus some lovely comments on Tumblr and Webtoon that made the whole thing worth it is making me feel better about keeping going! I was seriously thinking of quitting, but Iāve decided to see this thing through till at least the end of arc 1!!!
Chapter 6 was what I call an in-between chapter - something bridging the gap between plot points. Ch6 wrapped up the arcās midpoint and Ch7 set up its finale - which we are swinging straight towards with Ch8 coming soon!! We got some proper character introductions with chapter 6 - most importantly Nova and Ansel, as well as villain Lullaby. Chapter 7 too was to flesh out both Shadow and Sunni, and get them closer - theyāre a bonafide Team now! It was fun doing the jungle scenes and I hope to do some more weird visuals for more freaky dream stuff in the future.
Iāve been working on a Dynamo Heroes website, mainly where I can put all the extra bits and bops and thingamajigs I have amassed - like character profiles, a trading card sim, gallery, world stuff - all infodumped in one place. I donāt really have a way to actually display the comic on there without researching more RSS and JS stuff, which I need to read up on. Iām still working on like everything else for the site at the moment so itāll be a long while till itāll be live. [but check out the WIP screenshots I added, isnāt it so old web?? I love it so far! We are FOUR chapters from the end of the arc! We fully in the last third and things are about to ramp up!!!!! Iām so excited!!

For some reason I canāt view the total number of likes on Webtoon anymore? Not sure why, if anyone knows how to find them on the new creator dashboard please let me know! I guess either Iām dumb and canāt navigate the new dashboard, or Webtoon is putting emphasis on Super Likes and regular likes mean nothing to them. Well they mean everything to me Webtoon!! Let me view the stat!! Instead of likes Iāll put total no. of comments, because it at least lets me see that.

Another chapter done, another year done! Since the last chapter we have gained about 30 new subscribers! Welcome everyone! What a crazy chapter!! It was very difficult to draw lol, what with the city scenes - still not great at drawing crowds! Iāll get better with time, I know it.
Goodness! Sunni has becomeā¦ Sunni!! She has officially debuted as a hero, but at the cost of losing Chester. I remember writing this arc a few years ago and contemplating whether to kill Chester off at this point - yknow, the olā mentor-dies-so-the-hero-must-win-on-their-own trope. But I ultimately decided against it - partly because I wanted to subvert that trope, mostly because it would be much more interesting for both Sunni and Chesterās development to keep him alive but out of commissionā¦ What are Styx's plans for him? He and Styxās relationship is one of the most interesting parts of the story imo and I canāt wait to explore it more.
The second half of the arc will be focussing more on Sunni, and the other titular Dynamo Heroesā¦ so look forward to that! This arc really does feel like a prologue to the entire story. We havenāt really even met the other two main characters! Next chapter we will be introduced to one of them! Look forward to that!
Recently I have been writing a novel! Set in the same world as DH, but in a totally different place and time. Iām about 50k words into it and hope to be finished with the first draft by January - Iāve been working on it since September! So of course Iāve been thinking a lot about publishing, and being a proper published author. This story needs more drafts before itās in a publishable state, but itās still exciting to think about!
Especially since I lost my job this month. I wonāt go into details about it, but it was a long time coming. Iād been wanting to leave that job for a long time. Hopefully searching for a new job wonāt affect the comic, but who knows whatāll happen. So Iāve been daydreaming about being a published author - could you imagine! My stories paying the bills! The dream! Looking forward to 2026, thatāll be the year Iāll become a published author! Iām MANIFESTING IT!!!
Also my partner and I are hoping to start the full production of my murder mystery game The Carter Kozak Files this year. Iām very excited to see that come to fruition, Iāve been working on episode one (writing and making art for it) since 2022! Hopefully I can use this Tumblr to post dev logs, so it can become the home of CKF as well as DH. Oh, also set in the same world.
I did also want to discuss OC-Tober this year, as I was reading the last newsletter where I was very excited to start. I think I lasted about a week or so? Then totally burnt out lol. I thought itād be easy to do one a day but alas. It was fun! And I ended up creating some of my favourite illustrations Iāve ever done. It was refreshing to do static full coloured illustrations, and I should do it more often. Itās just hard to come up with interesting ideas sometimes, I think thatās what stopped me from going any further. Lessons for the future I suppose.
This first comment Iād like to highlight in order to explain Chesterās magic! It was on page 198:

Well doc, it forms underground when he plunges his sword into the ground. Whatever wood that may be underground in that area, be it roots or buried planks or whatever, pools together to make the puppet. Itās the same with any puppet he creates, and he even has a history of burying wood where he thought itād be most useful, back when he was a hero. Itās one of those things that donāt really matter enough to explain in-story. Itās just magic!

Welcome Pluto! I was very glad to receive this comment on page 209. I was worried it wasnāt clear enough that Sunni was having a flashback to learning about a plant she could use in battle, but it looks like there was no need to worry!

Chapter 4 is done already! And we have surpassed 100 subscribers on Webtoon! That was my ultimate goal for this comic, so should I stop now? HAHA no way. Next chapter we will be officially halfway through arc 1! Keep your buckles buckled, people - this one is going to be a doozy!
Christie Jackson is here! We got a little lookback to Chesterās creation, as well as his origin as Dynamoās sidekick. You may remember Styx mentioned she had found Christie in chapter 3ā¦ We also had the (sort of) debut of another character, IGNITE!!!!! Otherwise known as that ginger haired kid from the prologue! Shadow Walker recognises him, but does he recognise Shadow? And whatās he doing working for the Wolf Gang?
There is one thing that troubles me about this chapter and thatās how Sunniās magic plant growing ability is revealed. It doesnāt feel very natural or dramatic, Chester just sorta asks about it. Iāve been workshopping chapter 5 and Iām hoping to showcase it in a more emotionally satisfying way, so Iām thinking this conversation can just be set up or something lol. Although I really hold high standards for myself as a storyteller, sometimes I just need to remind myself that Iām just doing this for fun.
At the moment Iām thinking a lot about going to artists conventions and having a table at an artist alley. I told myself when I started posting this comic a year ago that if I reached 100 subscribers, I would celebrate by getting a table at a con and promoting the comic there. Weāre way above that goal far sooner than I thought, which is great! It just means that that dream may be further away due to just how expensive it is. I donāt know, I thought Iād be in a much better financial situation by then lol. It always seemed like a lofty far away goal, 100 subs. Alas, here we are already!
I did try hosting an AMA on Tumblr to celebrate, but I received no questions lol felt a bit embarrassing. Maybe in the future, but Tumblr seems to still be at a stand still when it comes to audience numbers.
Right now, Iām focussing on improving my art. Iām being more mindful about colour picking and theory, and trying to improve my backgrounds. I want to get better at static illustrations as well. Doing the comic, especially since it's in black and white, I think has stunted my progress as an artist. At the moment I feel stuck doing the same over and over, and I just want to break out and experiment.
Andā¦ thatās why Iām participating in OC-tober this year! Every day in the month of October Iāll be picking a character from the comic and making an illustration of them! I wonāt be using any prompts, just the character and vibes. Stay tuned to see some characters that havenāt debuted yet but will be in arc 1ā¦

Chapter 4 is here already, so let's look back on the past couple months of uploads! I'd like to take a moment to give myself a pat on the back for getting to a hundred pages this chapter and sticking with it this long. Hopefully for a lot longer. I've been contemplating upping the update rate to 4 pages a week rather than 3 since the story is coming out rather slowly and I'm getting impatient, but my partner has been persuading me not to for fear of burnout. I can't help it! I don't want arc one to take like 5 years to come out lol.
I am actually in the middle of moving house, so I am keeping it to 3 pages a week for now, but I'm going to seriously consider it over the summer. Perhaps for the first anniversary in September I can figure out something new.
It's a mini training arc! While Chester trains Sam with his hero know-how, Shadow Walker finds himself battling the fearsome Amadeus, leader of the Wolf Gang. This chapter also sees the introduction of Styx - one of Blackthornās higher up operatives. Things are beginning to ramp up a little. Next chapter sees the flashback of Chester and Dinaās first meeting, as well as another important character introduction.
From now on I feel like my writing and art actually starts to get better haha. I canāt wait to see the rest of the arc through, but thereās 7 more chapters to go! With the current upload schedule it feels like itāll end in like 2 years. Iām trying to figure out a schedule that both uploads the story quicker, and doesnāt make me burnout. Iām gonna work hard over the summer to get way ahead of myself in the story, then start uploading more.
Finding Dina is only the beginning - this story is HUGE and will likely wonāt end for years to come. Chapter 3 truly feels like weāre still in prologue territory lmao.
Speaking ofā¦ Iām in the middle of writing arc 10 - thatās right, arc 10 - chapter 146 to be precise. Writing this story has been a long trek over the past couple years and Iām grateful Iām now confident (and skilled) enough to actually see it to fruition.
This weekend my partner and I are moving in together! In this new chapter of my life Iām hoping to spend more time on creative projects rather than, erm, walking on eggshells around my former roommate. Itās gonna be a lot of fun finally living with my wonderful and lovely partner!!
I know I said this last time, but Iām hoping to spend more time on Tumblr - I want to clean up the blog a bit, write up character introduction posts and an introduction post to the comic in general for newcomers to the blog. Iāll definitely have time to do so over the summer so watch out!

Welcome back! Itās been about three months since the last retrospective. Another chapter in da pocket! Eagle eyed viewers will notice I changed my url from ctcomix to pocketandrew - pocket andrew has been my name online for years and it felt a bit weird going by something so corporate sounding like ctcomix, even though Iād like to make a comic company someday called Common Tongue Comics.
Anyway! Iād like to celebrate a big milestone - 50 subs!!!! Not just 50, weāre at 61 now! In the last newsletter I was saying how my goal was 50 by the summer! itās not even spring yet lmao. Thatās it!! 100 subs by summer! LET'S DO IT!
Recently I been trying to focus more on growing my tumblr, but itās been hard. I donāt get how these modern social medias work lolā¦ I left instagram for tumblr because I thought itād be easierā¦ well I just gotta make it work. Iām not going back on that meta ai bs.
I think Iāll start posting more about my other projects I got going on. Besides the comic, I got a couple games Iām writing/drawing for - BRAKE UR NECK, a retro racing game, and The Carter Kozak Files, a murder mystery visual novel game. The CK Files is much more developed and Iād love to share some concept art for it. Hoping for it to start production this year. Iāll also post characters from dh that havenāt appeared yet in the main upload. I have a ton of art I been holding back posting bc the character hasnāt made it to the webtoon yet! Iāll just post it!
Chapter two introduces Enviroburst - an old super villain of Dynamoās. Heās got some History with Chester as wellā¦ Enviroburst was meant to be a one and done kinda villain but I loved writing him so much I decided to explore his backstory and bring him back later on in the story. He doesnāt reappear till like chapter 15ish tho enviroburst fans gotta cope till then (itās me iām coping).

WHAT THE HECK - 30 subs in three months??? Wonāt lie, I thought that Iād get little to none during the first arc, or at least the first few chapters. Maybe my dreams of getting 50 subs by next summer will actually happen?? My overall goal is 100 subs altogether so!!!! Itās happening!!!
Oh, I wanted to clear up some things about the comicās structure cos iāve planned out a good chunk of the story. This first āarcā is about 10 chapters long, and most of the comicās arcs are about 10-20 chapters long with the longest written so far being Arc 8 with 19 chapters. As of this newsletter, Iām in the middle of writing Arc 9, and the last chapter I finished writing was chapter 127 pfff
This is prose written btw - not like comic script which is a format Iāve looked into before, but prose writing is just easier for me to adapt into comic since I can really go into the characterās headspace and do appropriate expressions and body language.
The Medallion (and Prologue) is done and out there, and I have a lot of regretsā¦ I mean, Iām kidding - Iām just a bit shook by the artwork quality. In case you missed on that one random post I did on Tumblr at like page 22 or so, a majority of these pages were created over a year or two ago - especially the prologue which i worked on in 2021ā¦ when I decided I had a large enough backlog (about 150 pages) I had gotten SO much better at art and creating comics, so I decided to redraw the Prologue, which the original looked SO bad compared.
I also redrew the first scene of chapter one (pages 17 to 21), and wanted to redo a few more pages, but my partner convinced me not to so I can actually upload the dang thingā¦ This comic has been in production for at least three years after all. If I just redrew all the pages again, it would NEVER see the light of day. Truthfully, I was procrastinating. I was scared of posting.
Alas, here we are. Sam has the medallion and Chester (Puppet) is being difficult about the whole thing. Thereās not really much more I can say, the story hasnāt really got going yet. I can say though, that you can probably tell I was so obsessed with Chester while writing this arc lol. Also Circe. I love Circe.
Iām going to try keeping this whole newsletter short, obvs i haven't been able to stop yapping so far, so Iāll fill this section with sections I want to add to the newsletter once the comic perhaps has more of a following. Iām sure whoeverās reading this rn isnāt that invested in myself and this comic to keep reading past the first couple sentences, so if youāve made it this far thank you! Or youāre my partner, to which I say hi honey : P
A section Iād like to add maybe is a script to screen type comparison - where I compare a section of the original prose to one of the pages and explore my thought process with changes and creation and such. Iām not so sure about adding this one, weāll see.
Another section Iād love to do someday is popularity polls - yāknow like in shonen jump? This comic is going to get SO many characters and Iād love love looove to see whoās peoples favourites from arc to arc, or like favourite moments/scenes etc. I think itād be super fun! I think Iād like to hold a popularity poll when we get to 100 subs!! Let's make it happen!!
